Meet Powerhouse Kickboxing/Fitness founder
KONSTANTIN SELIVANOV, founder of Powerhouse Kickboxing Inc., has
been studying, practicing and teaching various Martial Arts forms
for over thirty years. Using extensive knowledge gained during that time,
has combined many fighting styles into one to create Powerhouse
Kickboxing.
Always fascinated by Martial Arts, Konstantin began his journey in his
native Russia in 1979, a time when Martial Arts were illegal in that country.
He was brought secretly to classes at a Wing Chun school. After years of
extensive training there, Konstantin’s passion for Martial Arts and curiosity
about other styles led him to a Shotokan Karate School, where he earned
his black belt.
As Konstantin sought more knowledge and a better understanding of body
\mechanics, he attended P.F esgaft St Petersburg State University. With
Sports and Exercise Science as his major, he also underwent a Fitness
Trainers program. Learning anatomy, physiology and body mechanics.
At the same time, he was working as Assistant to
the Fitness Director at the Electrosila Sport Complex.
Still attending University and working, Konstantin began studying
Tae Kwon Do because of the superior leg technique it offered. After he
received his black belt, Martial Arts became legal in Russia and Konstantin
opened his first club.
In the spring of 1991, Konstantin
accepted an offer from the Olympic Martial Arts Club in New York to become
head coach there, he and his wife made a decision and moved to U.S. While working at the
club, Konstantin added Muay Thai to his arsenal of fighting styles.
After a year, Konstantin and his wife left New York for Arizona and then
Dallas, Texas, where he taught kickboxing at Guy Mezger’s Free Style
Kickboxing club. Konstantin’s respected presence in the local Martial Arts
community led to him being cast as IVAN in the film “Miss
Congeniality”. After this introduction, Konstantin has appeared in numerous
commercials and films.
Over the years, all the styles Konstantin studied began morphing into one,
as he took the best parts of each and used them to create a unique and
powerful style of his own – Powerhouse Kickboxing. Powerhouse Kickboxing
combines the aggressiveness of Muay Thai and Tae Kwon Do, the
defensive style of Wing Chun and the undisputed effectiveness of boxing
hand technique to create an intense and substantial fighting style, which
can be used as self-defense, or simply to provide a great workout.
Using anatomical knowledge, years of experience as a professional athlete
and a trainer, and the science of body mechanics, Konstantin helps his
students achieve their fitness and self-defense goals quickly by providing
personal attention and a thorough understanding of the principles of
Powerhouse Kickboxing.
